Continued Pursuit to Better Protect and Serve!

The Wildwood City Fire Department has received a $13,675 grant to equip and train its members for "self-rescue bailout systems". The grant was awarded by the Lt. Joseph P. DiBernardo Memorial Foundation, also known as the Joey D Foundation.

Lt. DiBernardo died Nov. 22, 2011, as a result of the injuries suffered during what is known as the “Black Sunday fire” in New York City. In January 2005, DiBernardo responded to a tenement fire in the Bronx borough of New York City with FDNY Rescue 3. While working the fire, three FDNY firefighters died that day in the line of duty. Because of illegal partitions and blocked fire escapes, FDNY Ladder Co. 27 and Rescue 3 became trapped on the top floor of this Bronx tenement. Surrounded by fire with no way out and running out of air, they were forced to jump out the rear windows of the structure five stories below.

Wildwood City Firefighters all received these very important bail-out systems and training at All Hands Fire Equipment, LLC located in Neptune, NJ. The departments continued aggressive pursuit of funding opportunities once again have equipped and trained our Firefighters to be better protected and to better serve our residents and visitors of the City of Wildwood.
